Similar items

Drop a row of related products onto your product pages with one click. The block reads the current product, finds the catalog items closest to it in style and use, and renders them as a horizontal row of cards. No tagging, no manual curation.

What shoppers see

On any product page, a row of product cards appears wherever you placed the block. The default heading reads "More like this." Each card carries a product image, title, and price. Clicking a card navigates to that product's page like any other product link.

The match is based on the source product's full text and image content, not just its tags or category. A linen blazer with a relaxed fit lines up with other linen blazers and other relaxed pieces, even when their tags or product types don't overlap.

Add the block to your product template

  1. In your Shopify admin, open Online Store, Themes.
  2. Click Customize on your active theme.
  3. In the top dropdown, switch the editor to a Product page.
  4. In the left sidebar, find the section where you want the row to appear (below the product details, above related products, etc.) and click Add block.
  5. Pick VQ Similar Items from the list of available blocks.
  6. Drag it to the position you want in the section.
  7. With the block selected, set the row heading (default "More like this") and the number of cards (3 to 6) in the right-hand settings panel.
  8. Click Save in the top right of the theme editor.

The row is live on every product page that uses the section you edited. If you have multiple product templates (e.g. one for accessories, one for apparel), repeat the steps in each template. You can also add multiple Similar Items blocks per page if you want different headings or densities in different spots.

Brand fit

The row picks up your theme's fonts and colors automatically. If you want to adjust the result, the dashboard's Customize panel lets you fine-tune the look without touching code. See Match your brand.

Verify it's working

Open any product page on your storefront. The row should appear within a second of the page loading. If it's missing, the most common causes are:

  • The block isn't placed in the active theme's product template, or it was placed in a section your product page doesn't use.
  • The product template was customized away from the standard one and the section the block lives in isn't being rendered.
  • Your VeryQuery property has fewer than a handful of items, so there's nothing to recommend yet. Add more items and the row will populate as the catalog grows.

Pricing

Similar items are included in every plan; the only capacity meter is the catalog cap (see Plans). No per-lookup charge.

Turning it off

Open the theme editor, find the block in your product template, and click the trash icon. Save. The row is gone on the next page load. Removing the block doesn't affect anything else (catalog sync, search, signals all keep working).
