Trending items
A row of items shaped by what your shoppers are actually searching for right now, with a headline like "Trending Material: Wool" that names the category or trait getting the attention. No manual curation, no merchandising rules to keep up to date. The row refreshes automatically as shopper interest shifts.
What shoppers see
Wherever you placed the block, shoppers see a row of product cards under a heading like "Trending Material: Wool" or "Trending Category: Sneakers." The first word is fixed (you set it in the theme editor, default "Trending"); the rest is the auto-detected label that matches whichever Smart Category or trait the recent search traffic has been clustering around. When the signal does not point at a single category or trait clearly, the heading shows just your prefix and the row still surfaces items based on the overall search pattern.
Cards behave like any other product card: image, title, price, click to navigate to the product page.
How the pick is made
Every shopper search on your store contributes to a rolling signal. We look at the last 24 hours of search activity, compare it against the auto-derived categories and traits VeryQuery built from your catalog, and pick the category or trait that the most recent searches are pointing at. If the last 24 hours is quiet, we widen the window to the last 7 days. If it is still quiet (very low search volume), the row hides itself rather than showing a misleading "trend."
The label updates as shopper interest changes. There is no schedule to manage and no editorial decision to make. If your shoppers are suddenly searching for outerwear in October, the row reflects that automatically the next time it refreshes.
Add the block to your theme
- In your Shopify admin, open Online Store, Themes.
- Click Customize on your active theme.
- Pick the page you want the row to appear on (homepage, a specific collection, etc.) using the top dropdown.
- In the left sidebar, find the section where you want the row to appear and click Add block.
- Pick VQ Trending Items from the list of available blocks.
- Drag it to the position you want in the section.
- With the block selected, set the heading prefix (default "Trending") and the number of cards (3 to 8) in the right-hand settings panel.
- Click Save in the top right of the theme editor.
Trending Items is page-agnostic. You can drop it on the homepage, in a collection sidebar, on the cart page, or anywhere else a section accepts app blocks. You can also add more than one if you want different placements with different prefixes (e.g. "Popular" on the homepage, "Trending" on a collection page).
When the row hides
The row stays hidden in two cases.
- Not enough recent search activity
- If too few shoppers have searched on your store in the last 24 hours or 7 days, there is no signal to base a trend on. As traffic builds, the row appears on its own.
- Storefront search not yet placed
- Trending reads from search activity. If you have not added Storefront search to your theme yet, the signal source is missing. Add search, let it run for a few days, and the trending row will start populating.
You will see the same "not enough activity" state in the theme editor preview the first time you place the block on a new property. That is expected. Save and check back later as your shoppers start searching.
Brand fit
Like the other VeryQuery blocks, this row picks up your theme's fonts and colors automatically. See Match your brand to tune the look without writing code.
Pricing
Trending Items is a navigation and discovery surface. It is included in every plan; the only capacity meter is the catalog cap (see Plans).
Turning it off
Open the theme editor, find the block, and click the trash icon. Save. The row disappears on the next page load. Removing the block has no effect on anything else.
